WHAT HAVE I GOT MYSELF INTO

I woke up late today thinking that this might be a good day to invite people again to join I-genius. I got myself a cup of coffee, turned on the PC, and after (thankfully) being successfully connected to the wifi (that is constantly giving me problems), I logged into I-G.

Just when I looked at the homepage (I do not know what got into me), I found myself asking… What have I got myself into?

It all started when a friend asked me if I would like to be an ambassador for I-genius. I answered with a quick, ¨Why not? ¨ After all, it won’t hurt to be part of another website. I already have Myspace, Spaces, 360, Friendster, Livejournal, Bebo, Facebook… to name a few! Plus, it also gives me a feeling of being such a great person being a part of a community that strives to make a difference in this climate-changing world.

And now, after a couple of months of inviting friends and even persons that I do not know to join the community, I’m faced with the question, ¨What have I got myself into? ¨

I thought about what I have already gained from being a part of the site. I do not have a business. I am just another person who wishes for the famous…World Peace… Still, I realized, I was able to get to know interesting people who are already on their journey in the path called social development. I think that is way better than having a cup of coffee with an airhead in Myspace.

The question remains, ¨What have I got myself into? ¨. For a person like me, it is not enough to have my own opinion. I need to know what other people think about it. So, I typed I-GENIUS HUTCHINSON WARD, clicked Search, and then I found what I was looking for.

I found comments both good and cynical, got to know more about the projects of the directors (love Kikass) and, tried to think of my own opinion over the subject called I-genius.

The name itself – I-genius – was criticized but, I say, do you really have to be literally a genius to join the site? Hundreds of people joined the site who I am sure did not mind being called an I-genius. For me, what matters is the goal of the community which is social development. Is it really a big issue if an object, for example, has a mushy name so long as it does what it is meant to do?

Then, there’s the topic about social marketers behind the community… I think that it is completely explained on the About Us that the site is for social entrepreneurs and people who want to make a difference. Wikipedia says, social entrepreneurs assess their success in terms of the impact they have on society. But, entrepreneurs need money to continue what they are doing, right? So, correct me if I am wrong, a community of social entrepreneurs = a community of people who earn money with a goal of having a good impact on the society they live in. So, I-genius is a community wherein each entrepreneur networks with another, strike a deal, and put their hands on the goal of social development. I will leave you be a judge of that. Anyway, as of the moment, I am still on the side of people who want to make a difference but hopefully in the future will be a social entrepreneur.

Have I found my answer to ¨What have I got myself into? ¨ ?

I have found myself a member of a global community ( with a cute name when I got myself to think about it) whose friendly members have interesting businesses from media to apartments but all with a similar goal – social development.

Now, ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to announce that I am ¨I-genius¨!
